Today we payed the $13 toll and took the tunnel over to Whittier, Alaska to have a go at the Portage Pass Trail. This trail is located in the Chugach National Forest and offers a view of the Portage Glacier if the weather conditions permit. The trailhead sits off the first right turn after coming out of the tunnel to Whittier.
The trail is a little steep for a little under a mile, and leads up to a lookout that overlooks the glacier. Even with the rainy conditions, we were still able to see the Portage Glacier!
We ended our hike at the lookout, as it snowed last night and the trail was not obvious to me past this point. This trail does continue on to get closer to the glacier, but I will save that hike for another day.
