Bird Ridge Trail – Anchorage, Alaska

April 13, 2014

I had attempted this trail a couple weeks ago but was unable to summit due to a lack of preparedness and a significant amount of snow. Today, I hiked this trail with a Meetup group, and finally summited! And the weather was PERFECT!

This trail is VERY steep and finally offers some relief after getting past the first false summit (next two pictures below). The views of Turnagain Arm and the Chugach Mountains are beautiful throughout the entire hike.

The hike to the summit (pictured below) was fun and even with the snow, not as challenging as the first two miles up.

The view from the summit was beautiful, and we were fortunate to see a beautiful sunset as well.

The most enjoyable part about this hike was coming down from the summit back to the false summits (pictured below).

In a way, coming back down this mountain was a lot harder on my legs than coming up. Overall the hike took about 3.5 hours.

This has been the most challenging trail that I have hiked so far. Having said that, this has also been one of the most rewarding hikes!
