Reed Lakes Trail – Hatcher Pass, Alaska

May 16, 2016

The road to the Reed Lakes Trail trailhead was still closed for the season, so it was a two-mile walk down Archangel Road just to get to the trailhead. The trail started off wet and muddy but soon turned to snow. There were a few large avalanches covering both Archangel Road and the Reed Lakes Trail.

The trail starts off fairly flat but got steep once reading the mountain. Shortly after the trail started switch backing up the mountain, the trail was completely covered with snow and recently untraveled. I made it about 3 miles in to the trail before determining that the trail was no longer safe to travel.

Even though I didn’t make it to the lakes or Bomber Glacier, the scenery of the Talkeetna Mountains was beautiful. I am beyond anxious for the snow to melt some more and finish the hike to Bomber Galcier.

For more information I found the following websites helpful:

This blog is simply a log of my personal experiences. It is not a travel guide, a trail guide, any other sort of a guide, and it is not intended to give information for replication.
