Mill Loop Trail – Independence Mine – Hatcher Pass, Alaska

September 14, 2016

Unfortunately the Independence Mine area has already shut down for the season, BUT this place was so much neater without all the snow (see previous post for snow).

Because the mine site has already shut down, there is about a mile walk from the lower parking lot up to the mine.

The Mill Loop Trail starts up at the mine, and is a 1/4 mile loop around the back side of the mine.

There are much better up-close views of the old mine from the Mill Loop trail.

The trail ends at the water tunnel (pictured below), which you can enter!

Then there is a paved pathway past the mine train (pictured below) back to the visitor center and museum.

The view of the entire mine was pretty cool, even on a rainy day.

For more information I found the following websites helpful:

This blog is simply a log of my personal experiences. It is not a travel guide, a trail guide, any other sort of a guide, and it is not intended to give information for replication.
