Wolverine Peak and Near Point – Anchorage, Alaska

November 6, 2016

I have been wanting to hike to Wolverine Peak for quite a while, and decided to hike to both Wolverine Peak and Near Point today.

I started off this hike with a little moose at the Prospect Heights Trailhead.

This trail starts off very easy and then gradually gets steeper and steeper. There were several great views of Anchorage and Sleeping Lady on the way up.

The ground was pretty icy in places, and ice cleats would have been helpful.

The view from Wolverine Peak was pretty amazing. The coolest part was seeing other trails I have previously hiked.

To the left of the ridge is Long Lake. I will have to hike that trail in the future. To the right of the ridge is Williwaw Lakes and Black Lake that I hiked back in September. From Wolverine Peak, we followed the ridge line over to Near Point.

Near Point offered nowhere near as good of a view as Wolverine Peak, but the military was conducting training when we were coming down from Near Point. Overall these trails took about 6 hours to finish.

For more information I found the following websites helpful:

This blog is simply a log of my personal experiences. It is not a travel guide, a trail guide, any other sort of a guide, and it is not intended to give information for replication.
