Byron Glacier Trail – Portage, Alaska

March 22, 2016

Last year I made this short hike, and it was WAY different! The road to the Trailhead was open, there was a wide trail, hardly any snow, and there weren’t ice caves. This year, the hike was double the distance (because the road to the Trailhead was closed), the trail was a very narrow path through the snow, and the glacier was beautiful.

There was a small cave upon approaching the Byron Glacier.

It is hard to tell without any references in the pictures, but I was able to stand under the cave without difficulty.

It is amazing to me how different this hike was from the same time last year.

For more information refer to my previous post about hiking to Byron Glacier.
